As of Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise release of 11.5, you will be able to connect from Spotlight Developer for SSMS to the existing Spotlight Diagnostic Server directly without creating a "Spotlight Developer Diagnostic Server" - thought that option is still available.
If an install is already done with the "Spotlight Developer Diagnostic Server"chosen, a re-install is required to select the existing Spotlight Diagnostic Server. It cannot be selected from the setting after install.
If connecting to the existing Spotlight Diagnostic Server an Spotlight Essentials account (https://www.spotlightessentials.com/) is not needed.
