In the On Demand Migration for Email (ODME) portal, which mail system types support Mail Forwarding?
Email forwarding is supported for G Suite, Office 365, Zimbra, and Novell GroupWise.
Note: ODME can not set forwarding for on-premise Microsoft Exchange servers. This is due to the fact that ODME does not have access to your internal Active Directory or Exchange Management Shell in order to make the necessary changes to set mail forwarding. In the case of Office 365, a PowerShell endpoint is published externally to the outside world, which allows for ODME to make the necessary changes.
It is possible to create a script to set mail forwarding outside of ODME when working with on-premise Exchange servers. However, this is beyond the scope of Quest Support. If there are concerns about the timing of setting mail forwarding via script and the timing of the migration, then you can perform a "final pass" migration after setting forwarding in on-premise Exchange. The performance of this "final pass" migration can be improved by employing a date filter in the ODME migration settings using a date window of 2 days before and 2 days after the day forwarding was set. When setting forwarding in on-premise Exchange it is important to set DeliverToMailboxAndForward to $false, as enabling feature will cause mail items that were forwarded to be duplicated in the target by the "final pass" migration.
