- Launch vRanger
- Select Tools | Virtual Appliance Deployment Wizard
- Deploy Virtual Appliance
- If you have downloaded the OVA file manually, select Use Local OVF and click Browse to browse to the downloaded OVA file.
or
Select Download OVA and browse to the location to which vRanger should save the OVA file.
Note If you have downloaded the OVA for a previous deployment, and still have it saved on your system, you do not need to download it again.
Click on Next to advance to the next screen. - Select the Host where the VA is to be deployed. Then choose between the options to Associate the VA to a specific host or cluster.
Click on Next to advance to the next screen. - Choose the VA configuration options desired and click on Next to advance to the next screen.
- Confirm your selections and click on Finish.
- Configure Virtual Appliance Backup job
- Right click on VM in 'My Inventory'
- Select the options in the wizard until you reach 'Transport Selection'. This is new to vRanger 5.4
Here you can direct vRanger to sepcifically use the VA for backup - Select the options 'On a VRanger Virtual Appliance' using 'Advanced' & 'LAN' transport
Based on the options selected vRanger will first attempt to abckup the VM using Virtual Appliance hot-add, and then
Virtual appliance based LAN
A hotadd job will mount the disks of the source VM to the Virtual Appliance, while a VA-based LAN job will transfer
the source VMs data from the source disk to the vRanger VA over the network - Work through the rest of the wizard and run the backup job
You will know the VA is being used for the backup by the following entires in the job logs:
'Using VA-based hot-add' or 'Using VA-based LAN'
