Quest Catalog Service is running with no errors but service is displayed as Unavailable and Cataloging cannot be run against any backups.
You will obviously want to check the normal areas to ensure the Catalog Service is running without errors:
-Check to make sure the Catalog Service is running in Services
-Check for any errors in the event logs for the Catalog Service
-Check port 8000 to make sure it is Listening and open with the Catalog as the PID using it
In ESXi 5.0 if you use ESXi Network Dump Collector and VMware Syslog Collector, you may experience an issue with trying to run the Catalog Manager. It is possible that ESXi Network Dump Collector and VMware Syslog Collector is using port 8000.
-Disable the ESXi Dump Collector/Syslog and Net Dumper Web Server services and set to DISABLED
-Reboot the vRanger Server and restart the Catalog Service
-Catalog Service should now be running and AVAILABLE.
The ESXi Network Dump Collector can run off the ESXi host itself or a Windows machine in the environment, however the other 2 applications need to run on the Windows machine.
Options for the ESXi logging tools:
Run the ESXi Network Dump Collector from the host
Remove the other 2 application and install on a seperate Windows box, not the backup server (IF YOU NEED CATALOG RUNNING)
Otherwise, explore the options to see if those applications can use a different port other than 8000.
