vRanger will not authenticate to my Iomega NAS device

Iomega uses a Linux based authentication method (system)

Creating a share on the root level will not allow connection through vRanger

The resolution is to use the folder that was created by default (out of the box) and to turn off the Linux users (Everyone)

1. Turn off Everyone (uncheck Read and write) for Authentication on the Backup folder
2. Create a user (example: vRanger)
3. Give the user you created Read and Write access
4. In Windows Explorer, browse to the Iomega NAS and create a folder that you will use for the Repository (in vRanger) in the Backup folder
5. In vRanger create a CIFS repository using the folder you created on the NAS device

*Note – creating a share on the Iomega NAS at the same level (root level) as the Backup folder will not allow authentication through vRanger even with the same setting listed above. You have to use the folder created by default by Iomega and turn off Everyone (Read and Write)
