All previously successful backup jobs directed to a repository on a Buffalo Terastation NAS begin to fail with the following error message: Error: 2916 - CIFS cannot connect to share” There are errors present in the Event Viewer System Log on the vRanger box indicating a disk failure. The path in the error message points to the CIFS repository on the Buffalo Terastation NAS device that the customer is backing up to.
Hardware failure in the customer's environment, specifically, the NAS device hosting the vRanger repository experienced a drive failure.
Replace any defective drives and reboot the NAS device.
