vRanger Issue backing up from one particular host fails with error
FATAL cant_read can't read vix:r:XXXX00000100.xxxx.xxx.xxxx:902:[XX001] XXXX01000120/XXXX1000120.vmdk:moref=vm-1771:snapshot-3866:4 [at io_size:125]
Backups from other hosts are fine, it is just one particular host give this above error
Upon collecting debug log, found this error also:
Connection VirtualCenter [xxxxx00000100.xxxx.xxx.xxxx] could not be resolved.
No such host is known
It appears that DNS is broken for that one host, Because that one host is added in the virtual center by one IP and that host to vRanger by another IP.
If that one host is addded to Virtual Center using the short name, vRanger will fail
That one host has to be removed from the virtual center and then re-added using the FDQN that is assigned to the Default Service console of the ESX host
Adding a host by short name is not best practice.
then backups from that host should work fine with VC added in vRanger.
Removed and readded that one host to vCenter and the backup are now working.
