ESX 4.1 hosts are configured to use AD integration and you are unable to add the host to vRanger. Attempts to do so fail at the "resolving port connections" step.
To work around this issue you will need to remove AD integration.
Also, for non-AD integrated ESX 4.1 hosts don’t forget that the non-root user needs to be a part of the wheel group as this group of users is permitted to use the utility ‘su’ in order to change to root.
