Would like to restore a virtual machine savepoint to the production network where the original machine resides. We would like a copy of this machine to configure for other functional purposes. The original virtual machine is using a static IP address.
Customer would like to use an existing savepoint to restore a copy of an existing virtual machine and configure it to for a different purpose. There is a potential IP Address and computer naming conflict that must be addressed to avoid a disruption to production equipment.
On the third screen of the vRanger Restore Wizard there is an input field titled "Restore As". Click in this field and enter the name you would like this virtual machine use.
Configure new static IP address for the recently restored virtual machine
Rename the virtual machine and join it to the designated domain or workgroup
*** DO NOT POWER ON THIS RESTORED VIRTUAL MACHINE UNTIL THE CONFLICTS LISTED BELOW HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED ***
If you power on this virtual machine while the original is powered on and on the SAME network segment , there will be 2 conflicts that will have a NEGATIVE impact on the production equipment. The conflicts that need to be addressed BEFORE powering the restored virtual machine on are listed below.
IP Addressing conflict - Change the static IP address of this machine to one that is not currently in use and/or has been assigned by the network administrator
Computer name conflict - Change the computer name to one that is unique and adheres to the GPO in place. You must have the authority to perform this task.
