Title

Failed to create VSS snapshots on the target machine. There are no volumes available.
Description

Backup fails with following Error: “Failed to create VSS snapshots on the target machine. There are no volumes available.”
When editing the job the following message was observed “ This Physical machine has no disks”
Cause

On investigation of physical machine multiple shadow copies were present.
Resolution

Remove shadow copies that are not required.
To remove specific shadow copies:
• Select a volume in an Explorer view and right click
• Select “Configure Shadow copies”
• Highlight required volume
• In the “Shadow copies of selected volume” window highlight shadow copies to be removed
• Click on “Delete now”
If it is determined that all shadows can be removed then follow below steps to perform a mass removal
From Command Prompt:
Vssadmin delete shadows /all
Alternatively from Diskshadow
DISKSHADOW>SHADOW DELETE ALL
