Snapshot can't be deleted using vssadmin
Description

Failed backup attempt left a snapshot on the physical server. The vssadmin command will not delete it and tells me that it needs to be removed by the application that created it.
Cause

vssadmin commands may not work on Windows 8
Resolution

Use Diskshadow.

If you wish to delete all shadow copies created follow instructions below:

From a command prompt type:

   1. Diskshadow (click enter)

   2. Delete shadows all (click enter)

If you wish to only remove a single shadow copy:

   1. Delete shadows id (id number) => The ID of the shadow you want to delete. Be sure to remove the parenthesis.
