Restore from a replica DataDomain
Description

While trying to restore a VM backup via the Restore Wizard ( Savepoint Manifest Selection ) from a EMC DataDomain appliance (in vRanger 5.x) you receive an error: "The selected manifest file cannot be read properly by vRanger. Please select another save point manifest file".
Cause

The DataDomain NAS device is a replica copy of another Datadomain device used as a vRanger Repository. By default, Datadomain's replication mechanism makes this replica device "Read-Only" to safeguard the data replicated to it. However, to perform any restore, vRanger 5.x MUST have Read-Write access to the device, as a temporary manifest file is written to the share when attempting a Restore.
Resolution

1) If using vRanger 5.x, change the replica DataDomain device from Read-Only to Read-Write mode. Then the restore functionality will return. Consult your DataDomain OS manual for instructions how to do this.

OR

2) If using vRanger 5.x, upgrade to vRanger 6.x, which does NOT attempt to write the temporary manifest file to the share being restored from.
