Description

When a vRanger 6.1 VA is deployed without a scratch disk because the VA is not initially is going to be used for replication. The need arises to also use the VA for replication a scratch disk needs to be added to the VA to allow it to be used for replication. If you try to add a scratch disk to the VA from the vRanger GUI you see the following error "Error:Error:2815 - FATAL scsi_scratch Unable to find any newly added devices! (1)".
Cause

When adding the scratch disk to a previously deployed VA via the vRanger GUI the VM itself gets modified correctly on the VMware side. The Linux OS does not get updated correctly and the error "Error:Error:2815 - FATAL scsi_scratch Unable to find any newly added devices! (1)" is generated.
Resolution

After you add the scratch disk to the VA via the GUI please follow the steps below to correct the issue.

1. Restart the VA.
2. Start with step 2 in the following KB to finish the scratch disk setup in the Linux OS to make the VA ready to be used for replication. https://support.quest.com/vranger/kb/114060
