Backups fail with the message "Unable to connect to remote server"
It is possible that the VMware vCenter service has stopped or is not responding.
It is also possible that the vCenter server was rebooted.
Verify that the vCenter service is running. If the problem continues to occur, restart the vCenter service and verify connectivty to the vCenter on port 443.
If the vCenter server is now running and responding normally, check the Windows system event viewer and verify whether the vCenter server rebooted. Installation of Windows updates will occur at 3:00 AM by default and most users schedule their backups to occur at night, which can cause a conflict. Also, by default, a Windows update that failed to install will retry every night until it succeeds. This will cause the server to reboot every night at approximately the same time.
