Hyper V backups fail with “VSSUTIL_WRITER_ERR”
Description

Performing a backup of a Hyper-V VM , the backup will fail with the following error: ” VSSUTIL_WRITER_ERR”.
Cause

Multiple shadow copies seen on the volumes of the failing VM. Possible space issue to create VSS snapshot on VM.
Resolution

1)From ‘My Computer’: Right click the drives of the VM and click ‘Configure shadow copies’.
2)If there are a lot of shadow copies present, delete them by clicking ‘delete now’.
3)After shadow copies have been deleted, run the backup job again.
