Hyper-V group backup fails with: "VSS_E_Flush_Writes_Timeout" -
Description
- When backing up Hyper-V virtual machines located in CSV and non-CSV volumes, the tasks created fail immediately with the following message:
"VSS_E_Flush_Writes_Timeout".
- Backing up individual VM's can be performed and complete successfully.
- The Hyper-V VSS writer is in a failed state.
- Windows event viewer shows a 12298 Event ID VSS Error.

Cause
Backups of virtual machines located in CSV and non-CSV volumes are not supported by the hypervisor. For additional information, please refer to the Microsoft KB 2771882

Resolution
Create a backup job that contains all the VM's in a Cluster Shared Volume and a separate backup job for the VM's located in a non-CSV volume.
