Need to add a second NIC to the virtual appliance to allow connection to another network.
Virtual appliance cannot ping storage device on a different network.
Power off the Virtual Appliance
Locate the VA in the vSphere client and Right click > Edit Settings
On the Hardware tab, select Add > Ethernet Adapter and then click next. Select the Type (E1000 is recommended), the network to connect to and check 'Connect at power on'.
Complete the wizard and power on the VA.
Logon as root
To verify the NIC was recognized and determine what device name was assigned run:
dmesg | grep 'eth'
eth0 will be the original nic, the second nic will most often be eth1 as shown below.
root:~# dmesg | grep "eth"

Change directories to /etc/sysconfig/
Run the command below from within the /etc/sysconfig directory to create and edit the configuration file for the new NIC
Command: vi ifconfig.eth1
Enter the following within the file:
IP=<ip address for this nic>
MTU=<Optional - if you are leaving this setting at the default, please leave the line out.>
