Installing Spotlight on Messaging on Vista or Windows 2008 fails pre-requisite check for Exchange (4287472)

When installing Spotlight on Messaging on Windows Vista or Windows 2008 in a pure Exchange 2003 or mixed 2003/2007 environment the pre-requisite check for the Exchange System Manager for 2003 does not pass.   The new version of Exchange System Manager for Vista or the ESM tool for 2008 have been installed.

The new version of Exchange 2003 System Management Tools for Windows Vista  and Windows 2008 places its registry entries in different paths that  Spotlight on Messaging does not check during the install  causing  it to  fail to recognize the pre-requisite.

Spotlight on Messaging will only be supported on Vista if it is a pure Exchange 2007 SP1 Environment because the Exchange Management Tools for 2007 SP1 can be installed on Vista and recognized by  the installer.

Workaround:

If running Spotlight on Messaging in an Exchange 2003 or Mixed Exchange environment,   Spotlight can be installed on Windows XP or Windows 2003 Server and 2008 Server using the following command:

1) Open a command prompt

2) Navigate to install directory of Spotlight on Messaging Install Files

3) Run setup.exe ignoreprerequisites=1

This will run the installer with out checking for Pre Requisites.
