Cause
Need assistance in planning a distributed UC Analytics deployment. -
Resolution
Generally UC Analytics can be installed on a single computer. For some large installations or in environments where performance is of prime concerns, a distributed installation on two or more computers may be considered.
The following example may be adopted for a distributed installation on two computers:
Server A
Web site (IIS) + Data Engine (Insights role) + Query Engine (Insights role) + Storage Engine Server B
Data Engine (Collector role) + Query Engine (Collector role) + Storage Engine The deployment can be scaled up in the future (as needed):
Server C
Data Engine (Collector role) + Query Engine (Collector role) + Storage Engine (Optional) Server D
Data Engine (Collector role) + Query Engine (Collector role) + Storage Engine (Optional) For environments which involve data accesses across different geographical locations, the data source should be split up based on the regions which the targets are located.
For example, for a business enterprise which has offices in the AMER, EMEA and APAC regions, the Exchange Configuration should be split into three instances:
Exchange Configuration Data Source 1
Target should be set to AMER Exchange server/mailboxes, while collector machine should be set to UCA Server B Exchange Configuration Data Source 2
Target should be set to EMEA Exchange server/mailboxes, while collector machine should be set to UCA Server C Exchange Configuration Data Source 3
Target should be set to APAC Exchange server/mailboxes, while collector machine should be set to UCA Server D If there are other data sources (example - Skype/Lync), they should be deployed according to the same rule as well.
Note: - If additional collector roles (Data Engine service and Query Engine service) are installed, it is recommended to have both service collector roles on the same server.
- If multiple Storage Engines are installed, the data set is divided across the Storage Engines. There is no redundancy since only one copy of a specific piece of data is stored; no multiple copies of data are stored.
- Install the Data Engine (Insights) and the web site on the same server for authentication reasons.
