How to dock or undock windows and toolbars in Toad for SQL Server. (4231931)

How do you undock a window or toolbar in the Toad for SQL Server screen to have a floating window that can moved around the screen.

The following are dockable, stay-on-top windows:
Output window
Workspace window
Auto Describe window
Execution Status window (in the Debugger)
Code Assistant window
Task Manager window
Source Preview window

Dockable windows can be docked to the top, bottom, or sides of the main window or any other dockable window. Toolbars can be docked to any side of the main window or can float on top of the current window. Additionally, the main menu bar can be floating or docked.


To undock a window:

1. Make sure the window is pinned open and visible.

2. Click and drag the blue title bar of the window away from the sides of the Toad for SQL Server screen, towards the center. This should create a blue silhouette of the window that moves with your mouse.

3. Once the blue silhouette has changed size and shape from the docked window and is away from the sides of the screen let go of the title bar. The silhouette should shrink down to a smaller size and mimic a hovering window.

4. The window should be an undocked, stay-on top window.

To dock a window:

1. Click and drag the blue title bar of the window to the right, left, top, or bottom sides of the Toad for SQL Server screen, where ever you want it docked.

2. A blue silhouette of the window will appear and will move with your mouse. Small direction icons will appear.

3. Drag the blue silhouette to the side of the screen where you want it docked, hovering the mouse cursor over the small direction icons that appear.

4. Once the blue silhouette changes size and shape you can let go of the title bar. The silhouette should enlarge, so that is mimics a docked window. Example, if you want to dock the window to the right, move the window/blue silhouette to the right of the screen and hover over the direction icon the right side. The window should be docked to the right of the screen.

Toolbars can be moved similarly:

To undock a toolbar:

1. Hover of the front end of a tool bar till you see a 4 direction arrow cursor. (refer to screen shot)

2. Click and drag the toolbar away from it's current position.

3. Once it's changed size and shape to a floating window let go of the title bar.

To dock a toolbar:

1. Click and drag the blue title bar of the floating toolbar to the right, left, top, or bottom sides of the Toad for SQL Server screen, where ever you want it docked.

2. Once the toolbar changes size and shape to the docked location let go of the title bar.
