Unable to see correct International data, for example Japanese, Thai, French, Russian, Spanish, or Chinese in the data grid. Toad displays an upside down question mark in the data grid.
RESOLUTION 1:
1. Open TOAD and select View | Options | Data Grids - Visual.
2. Uncheck "Restore MS Shell Dlg 2 font".
3. In the Fonts section, click Grid.
4. Set the font to "@Arial Unicode MS" and select the appropriate Language, from the Script drop-down box. For example Russian or Japanese. Click OK to save the accept the changes.
5. Click OK, to save all of the changes made to the Options.
6. Change the character set used for the Local computer, by selecting Start | Run and type RegEdit.
7. Drill down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | Software | Oracle | HomeX, where HomeX is the current Oracle Home in use.
8. Double-click the NLS_LANG string value under the home.
9. Change the character set value to the desired Language_Language.code. For example, the current value may be RUSSIAN_CIS.CL8MSWIN1251.UTF8, change this to RUSSIAN_CIS.CL8MSWIN1251.
10. Close and Restart TOAD.
RESOLUTION 2:
If the above solution does not resolve the issue, select Start | Settings | Control Panel | System | Advanced | Click Environment Variable | Create a New System Variable called NLS_LANG and enter the appropriate value (Language_Language.code). For example: JAPANESE_JAPAN.JA16EUC.
RESOLUTION 3:
Set the NLS_LANG in Registry to AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8
