In Environmental Variables, verify that the value of PATH starts with the path to the Oracle client you wish to use. If you have multiple clients installed, make sure that it starts with at least one of the clients you wish to use. Also make sure that there is only one PATH noted under System Variables, and no PATH is noted under User Variables.
If there is a PATH under User Variables, rename/remove that*.
1. Right click, My Computer | Properties | Advanced | Environmental Variables -- System Variables.
2. Find PATH and check the value.
For example, if the Oracle client home is in c:\products\Oracle\10g_home, the value of PATH should start with the same, and lead up to the BIN directory, i.e. c:\products\Oracle\10g_home\BIN;...
The rest of the path could be other various values the environment needs and may include other Oracle values. Click "Edit" if the value string is incorrect and add the Oracle home to the front.
*Note: Changes to the Environmental Variables settings could affect other applications on the computer. Back up values before making changes so that a rollback can be done if needed.
