User ran Toad 9.7.2 installation to upgrade a previous install of Toad 9.1.0. After Toad was upgraded, user noticed that none of the command line functions worked any more, as if the Environmental Path had been disabled.
User did some research online, and checked his registry value for the Path under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SYSTEM | ControlSet001 | Control | Session Manager | Environment | Path
The Type value for Path was set incorrectly to REG_SZ, when it should be set to REG_EXPAND_SZ
It is unconfirmed if Toad or the Quest Installer caused this issue, as the user also did other installations on the computer, including Adobe Reader 8.1. No other computers have been found with the REG_SZ type set even when they have Toad 9.7.2 installed.
WORKAROUND:
***WARNING***: Altering the Registry and Environment Variables can cause damage to your PC. Be sure to backup your computer as necessary and contact your local IT deptartment for any assistance.
1. Right mouse click on My Computer icon. Select Properties.
2. Click on the Advanced tab | Environment Variables.
3. Locate the System Variable "Path," click on Edit, then copy the entire contents of Variable value.
4. Save the contents to a notepad.
5. Open up the Registry by going to Start | Run | and type in "regedit" without the quotes. Click OK.
6. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SYSTEM | ControlSet001 | Control | Session Manager | Environment
7. Locate the variable Path. Check if the Type is REG_SZ. If it is already REG_EXPAND_SZ, then stop here as this workaround will not help you.
8. If it is REG_SZ, delete the Path variable from Registry.
9. Go to Edit | New | Expandable String Value in it's place. Rename the "New Value #1" to Path
10. Double click on the new Path and give it the value you saved in notepad.
11. Reboot the machine.
