After launching and connecting to Toad the SQL Editor cannot be written to. There is no editor portion of the window, only the results portions. The toolbars have been adjusted, but the user cannot manually move them. No work can be done when the Editor is in this state.
A restart of Toad and renaming Toad.ini does not seem to help.
A corrupted desktop.xml file.
If there are multiple installs of Toad, check that the Toad.ini file that is being reset is the correct file that goes with the Toad install being used. If there different desktop layouts saved, try changing the desktop layout to either default or another saved layout.
For versions 8.6.1 and below:
1. Exit out of Toad.
2. Rename the Desktops.xml file to Desktops.old. By default this file is located in the C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\User Files directory.
3. Launch Toad and retest issue.
Renaming the .xml file and re-launching Toad forces the application to regenerate the file with default settings. Once reset, a new launch of Toad will have the default desktop layout.
For versions 9.0.0 and above:
1. Exit out of Toad.
2. Rename the Toad.ini file to Desktops.old. By default this file is located in the C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\User Files directory.
3. Launch Toad and retest issue.
*Note, renaming Toad.ini file will revert Toad settings to default and saved connection passwords may be lost.
