Logs Tab

Each time a serious or potentially serious error is encountered by the Stat Central Agent, it logs the error to the database. The Logs tab provides you with a list of error logs generated by Stat Central Agent for the current day.

For each error log, the tab displays the date and time it was entered, as well as the job’s service domain, ID number, class, description, and status. To view an error log, click on the job description. This opens a message box containing detailed information about the error.

Filtering and Sorting

You can filter the information displayed in the Job Monitor window so that only the jobs or logs you want to view are displayed. Once you have specified filter settings, you can enable and disable the filter as needed.

You can also sort the information by clicking column headings. By default, information is displayed in ascending order. When you click a column heading, the information is sorted in descending order based on the values displayed in that column. Clicking a column heading a second time sorts the information back in ascending order.

Filters can be based on service domain and job class. In the case of the Schedule tab, you can also base a filter on status and the date the jobs are scheduled to be processed.

In the Service Domain, Job Class, or (in the case of the Schedule tab) the Status field, select the values you want to use as the basis for the filter. For example, in the Job Class field, select RptPrint if you only want to view Print Report jobs.
In the case of the Logs tab, specify a start date, an end date, or both. For example, if you only want to view logs that were generated after April 1, 2004, activate the From field and then enter “04/01/2004” or use the Calendar window and select the date. Logs generated before that date will be filtered from view.

Showing Job and Log Details

To view more information about a job or log, click the link in the Job Description column. In the Schedule and Jobs tabs, this opens the Job Details pop-up window, which shows the owner of the job, its priority, and additional parameters. In the Logs tab, this opens the Log Details pop-up window, which shows the individual entries for that log.

To view the details for all the jobs or logs, click Show Details. To close a Details window, click the Hide Details link for individual jobs or logs, or click the Hide Details button, which closes all open Details windows.

The Job Details window displays different information about a job depending on the tab from which it is opened. When opened from the Jobs tab, the Job Details window displays the same information about a job as it does when opened from the Schedule tab, however, from the Jobs tab the window also shows the job’s weekly processing schedule. Job Details windows feature links that let you open the other Details windows for the same job in different tabs.

Customizing the What's New Tab in Stat Web

The Stat Web client is delivered with an include.txt file that specifies default information displayed in the What's New tab on the main CSR console. This file is embedded in the working folders of the Stat Central Agent when it is started up. The delivered file cannot be modified directly. However, it is possible to edit a copy of include.txt and place it in a known location so you can display site-specific information in the What’s New tab.

To implement the What’s New tab on the web client, you have to set up an html-formatted file that will replace the include.txt file deployed the first time the agent is started.

The general format is:

Stat_home/config/stat.properties contains the pointer to this file. The pointer can be relative (the default), absolute, or a Web http URL.

Open Stat_home/config/stat.properties and find the property whats.new.include. Four or five lines above it is a description of how this property can be configured. Note when modifying this parameter that there are no spaces between the property name, the equals sign, and the file name. Also, the file paths should not contain spaces.

Setting the value to a relative file means you will have to replace the file each time the agent is redeployed. This is not practical and is not recommended. It only works well for the delivered, non-modifed include.txt file.

 

Alternatively, you may create the file in a location outside of the deploy directory and use an absolute path in the what’s new parameter. For example:

Putting it in a directory outside of the agent home directory will allow you to place the file in any secure location where the person responsible for updating it may do so without having to touch the agent or any of its configuration files.

A third option is to use a Web http file. This needs to be a very simplistic web file or the view on the screen may not be intelligible. In this example, the Quest web page is not fully rendered:

whats.new.include=http://www.quest.com

If you use the second (absolute path) or third (URL) option, you do not need to restart the agent after changing the stat.properties file, and you do not need to restart the agent after modifying the file in order for the What’s New description change to take place.

Below is an example of an include.txt file that contains a logo and a message. Images should not exceed 180 pixels in width or they will be truncated.
