Victim Cleans alarm

The Victim Cleans alarm becomes active when a page cleaner is invoked because of a synchronous write occurring during the victim buffer replacement for the database.

This alarm has been predefined with a Low severity level. The underlying metricfor this alarm can be adjusted to suit your environment by using the Metric Editor.

What you can do

Try these performance-tuning methods:

  • If this ratio is low—This could be an indication that there are too many page cleaners defined. If your CHNGPGS_THRESH (access the Databases drilldown’s Configuration tab to view the setting for this parameter) is set too low, you may be writing out clean pages unnecessarily.

  • If this ratio is high—This could be an indication that there are not enough page cleaners defined. A shortage of page cleaners will increase recovery time after failures.
