Note the average packet size and compare it to the default packet size for your server. When Adaptive Server receives a command from a client that is larger than the packet size (the remainder of the command is on one or more following packets), Adaptive Server waits to begin processing until it receives the full command. Therefore, commands that require more than one packet are slower to execute and take up more I/O resources.
If the average bytes per packet is near the 'default network packet size' configured for your server, you may want to configure a larger packet size.
You can configure the network packet size for all connections or allow certain connections to log in using larger packet sizes. The 'max network packet size' and 'additional network memory' configuration parameters are also integral to tuning the Adaptive Server network performance.
