Spotlight Diagnostic Server Installation Notes

Errors Connecting to the Host

The host is the computer where the Diagnostic Server is installed. Commonly returned errors and their corrective actions follow.

Error Code Error Message Action
0x80070005 Access is denied

The user installing the Diagnostic Server has insufficient privileges. Ensure the user has registry access, logon as a service privilege, and can install files.

0x800706BA The RPC server is unavailable

Check the following:

  1. Ensure the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is running on the remote computer.
  2. Ensure the name the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service expects is the same as the computer name.
  3. Check for problems with network connectivity.
  4. Ensure file and printer sharing is enabled.
0x8007035 Network path not found

There may be a basic networking issue especially when the machines involved are running different versions of Windows or are on different domains or subnets.

To resolve the issue, first check the host and domain fields. Have you entered them correctly? Are they spelt correctly? Next, if necessary, run the Windows Networker Troubleshooter from the Network and Sharing Center [Windows 7].
