The average time spent performing reads that directly access the database and bypass a buffer pool. The time is shown in milliseconds. Direct reads are used to read VARCHAR and LOB (large object) column data during disk queries and backups. A high average direct read time could be a symptom of I/O conflict. To see elapsed direct read time, check Direct Read Time (msec) in the Buffer Pools Details tab.
