Differencing Compressions (DC) is an ideal option for those environments that have frequently replicated documents with small changes. DC keeps a cached version on both the source and target, and uses DC to look for and replicate only the changes that have been made to the documents, rather than replicating the entire document every time. This requires more processing power to do, but can result in smaller file transfers, thereby decreasing network traffic on the transfer.
Differencing Compression can be set on the Configure Replication Connection page. Do the following to set your connection up for DC:
1.Go to Central Administration, Application Management, and Select Manage Replication Connections.
2.Select an existing connection or add a new connection. This will open the Configure Replication Connection page. At the bottom of the page is the compression settings section. Here you will select Differencing Compression (DC) as your compression option. You can also determine the DC threshold size.
