Alerts are typically replicated for the following reasons:
 Backups / disaster recovery
Alerts will typically be replicated to a backup server, and deactivated, to avoid redundant notification emails. If the main server goes off-line, the backup server can be used, and alerts can then be re-enabled.
If an older server needs to be retired, all content and alerts can be replicated to a new server, and the old server can be retired.
Alert replication is not required for standard replication operations, as it will create redundant notification emails.
