Migrating Custom Columns from Outlook into SharePoint

Question

Can Metalogix Content Matrix Console - Public Folder Edition migrate user properties (such as custom columns that have been added to an Outlook Task item) from Outlook into SharePoint?

Answer

Yes, it is possible for Public Folder Edition to migrate user properties/custom columns from Outlook into SharePoint, however, there are some limitations. This action is only possible with some source connection types, and will only work for custom columns of a specific set of data types.

Supported Connection Types

Below is a list of each source connection type and what it can support for migrating user properties.

Exchange Server Connection:

·Outlook Exchange Web Service (EWS) connector type - Does not support migration of user properties/custom columns from Outlook.

·Messaging Application Programing Interface (MAPI) connector type - This connection type does support the migration of user properties/custom columns from Outlook, but only for Outlook Task items.

·Messaging Application Programing Interface (Redemption) connector type - This connection type fully supports the migration of user properties/custom columns from Outlook.

PST Connection:

·PST file connection - This connection type fully supports the migration of user properties/custom columns from Outlook.

Supported Data/Column Types

Aside from the Connection type limitations, there are also some column type (or data type) limitations. While Exchange can support a number of different data types for their columns, Metalogix Content Matrix Console - Public Folder Edition will only support the migration of the following Public Folder data types for user properties:

Supported Data Types:

·String

·Date

·Boolean

·Number

·Currency

Most other column of different data types will be treated as String columns. There are only two data types that are not supported, even as String columns. The following data types are not supported by Metalogix Content Matrix.

Unsupported Data Types:

·Combination

·Formula
