Updating an Agent or Workstation

If an agent or workstation is not running the same version of Metalogix Content Matrix, You can update the Metalogix Content Matrix Console versions and the application mapping files on the Manage Agents or Manage Workstations dialog displays a value of Yes.

Manage Agents Dialog Mismatch

You can also use this dialog to:

·update application mappings

AND/OR

·update the version of the SharePoint 2013 or 2016 database adapter used as the source connection, to be consistent with the version used on the Controller machine.

NOTE: If you first configured Self-Service migration prior to version 8.7.0.4, you must perform a special, one-time update for each workstation.  Refer to the topic Updating Self-Service Workstations After an Upgrade from a Version Earlier Than 8.7.0.4.

To update an agent or workstation:

1.From the Manage Agents or Manage Workstations dialog, select the agent or workstation you want to update.

2.Click Update Agent or Update Workstation.

Update Agent

3.Select one of the options described in the following table:

If you want to …

Select …

·update the Metalogix Content Matrix Console version installed on the selected agent or workstation to match the Controller version

OR

·update the version of the source database adapter (Sharepoint 2013 or 2016) used to match the version used by the Controller

Update Metalogix Content Matrix Consoles.

NOTES:

·If the Controller (Host) version matches the version of the Console and/or database adapter installed on the agent or workstation, then the message 'Metalogix Content Matrix Consoles with same version is already installed' is logged.

·If the Controller (Host) version is older than the agent or workstation version, then the update fails, and the message 'Installation failed' is logged.

·License file and Mapping files will be updated every time, even when no updates are required.

copy the latest configuration files from the Controller (Host) to the agent or workstation

Update Application Files only.

NOTE:  For Distributed Migration agents, files needed to run a job (such as environmental settings, GUID Mappings, URL Mappings and Domain Mappings) will be copied.  For Self-Service workstations, only job history-related settings will be copied.  (User mappings are not updated.  Migration jobs will use the user mappings that have been saved to the Distributed Database.)

4.Click [OK].

The Update Agent or Update Workstation dialog closes and the selected update is completed if possible. The status will change to Configuring until the update completes. If the update is successful, the status changes to Available.

NOTE:  To view the current status, click Refresh Agent or Refresh Workstation  To see other logged messages, click View Agent or View Workstation.

Updating Self-Service Workstations After an Upgrade from a Version Earlier Than 8.7.0.4

If you first configured Self-Service migration prior to version 8.7.0.4, you must perform a one-time update of each workstation.

To update Self-Service workstations after an upgrade from a version earlier than 8.7.0.4:

Use the information in the following table to determine the appropriate action to take for each workstation that you want to update.

If you want to ...

Then ...

continue to allow Self-Service migration to be used by the workstation's local administrator only

Run a workstation update twice:

·the first time to Update Metalogix Content Matrix Console(s).

AND

·the second time to Update Application Files only.

allow non-admin users to perform Self Service migrations from the workstation

remove then re-add the workstation.

NOTE:  It is important the certificate is redeployed as part of the update so that Metalogix Content Matrix can install it for the machine (prior to version 8.7.0.4 it was installed for the user), which will allow non-admin users to perform Self-Service migrations from the workstation.

Refreshing an Agent or Workstation

To refresh an agent or workstation:

1.From the Manage Agents or Manager Workstations dialog, select the agent or workstation whose status you want to refresh.

2.Click Refresh Agent or Refresh Workstation.

The information about the selected machine is re-queried from the Distributed Database and presented in the list. For example, if the state of the machine has changed since the previous refresh and the dialog is still open, the Status of the selected machine will change.

NOTE: A refresh also occurs whenever the Manage Agents or Manage Workstation dialog is opened.

Removing an Agent or Workstation

NOTE: When an agent or workstation is removed, the agent or workstation definition is deleted from the Distributed Database. The Metalogix Content Matrix Console, the application file mappings and License files are not removed from the agent or workstation machine.

1.From the Manage Agents or Manage Workstations dialog, select the agent or workstation you want to remove.

2.Click Remove Agent or Remove Workstation.

A dialog displays asking you to confirm the removal.
