Managing Agents and Workstations

The Metalogix Content Matrix Console that is set up as the Controller (or Host), provides a single point of management control with the ability to add, view, edit, update, refresh and remove agents and workstations.

To open the Manage Agents or Manage Workstations dialog:

Use the information in the following table to determine the appropriate option to select.

NOTE:  If you are not connected to a configured Distributed Database, Manage options will be disabled.

Distributed Migration agents

from the Metalogix Content Matrix Console ribbon, choose Connection > Manage Agents.

Self-Service Migration workstations

from the Metalogix Content Matrix Console ribbon, choose Connection > Manage Workstations.

REMINDER:  If your Metalogix Content Matrix license does not include Self-Service Migration functionality all Self-Service options will be disabled.

Manage Agents Dialog

The Manage Agents or Manage Workstaions dialog presents a toolbar with the following options:

·Add Agent/Add Workstation - Allows you to automate the set up and configuration of a Distributed Migration agent or Self-Service workstation.

·View Agent/View Workstation - Displays more information about a selected agent or workstation such as log history, and other pertinent information.

·Edit Agent/Edit Workstation - Allows you to change the credentials of a selected agent or workstation.

·Update Agent/Update Workstation - Updates the Metalogix Content Matrix Console, license file, and all the mapping files on the selected agent.

·Refresh Agent/Refresh Workstation - Displays the most recent status of a selected agent or workstation.

·Remove Agent/Remove Workstation  - Deletes the agent or workstation definition from the Distributed Database but preserves the application and other files on the agent or workstation machine.

The Manage Agents/Manage Workstations dialog also displays a list of Metalogix Content Matrix agents or workstations. The information presented in the various columns are as follows:

Column

Description

Agent Name

Workstation Name

Name of the physical or virtual machine that is set up as an agent or workstation.

OS Version

The version of the operating system used by the agent or workstation.

CM Version

The version of the Metalogix Content Matrix edition installed on the  or workstation.

Run As

Down-level logon name to access the agent or workstation. For example, mydomain\administrator

Status

Recent state of the agent  or workstation. The status values could be one of the following values:

Available - the agent or workstation is ready to start a new migration job.

Busy - the agent is running a migration job.

Error - the agent or workstation has encountered a fault condition.

Configuring - the agent or workstation is being set up.

Log Message

The most recent log message. To view the log history and other pertinent information, see Viewing Agent or Workstation Details.

Controller/Agent Mismatch

An indication of whether the Controller and agent/workstation is running the same version of Metalogix Content Matrix.

Job Execution Allowed (workstations only)

An indication of whether Self-Service workstation job execution is enabled or disabled.  See Disabling Self-Service Job Execution.

In addition to the information presented in the columns, you can select an agent or workstation from the list by clicking anywhere on the row. A row selector icon and the highlighted row indicates the selected row. If you right-click the selected row, all actions other than the ability to add an agent or workstation is displayed as a pop-up menu as shown below.

NOTE:  If the Status of the selected row is Busy, then the Edit and Update actions are disabled. If the Status of the selected row is Configuring, then the Edit, Update and Refresh actions are disabled.

Adding an Agent or Workstation

To add an agent or workstation:

1.From the Manage Agents or Manage Workstations dialog, click Add Agent or Add Workstation.

Distributed Migration Add Agent

1.In the Agent Name or Workstation Name field, enter the name of the physical or virtual machine to set up as a Distributed Migration agent or Self-Service workstation.

Alternatively, click [Browse] and select from any of the listed computers. The computers that are listed are networked computers and not necessarily Metalogix Content Matrix agents or workstations. Contact your system administrator if you are not sure which machine should be selected.

2.In the IP Address field, enter the Internet Protocol identifier of the physical or virtual machine you want to add.

NOTE:  If the name you entered can be resolved successfully, the IP Address field is automatically filled. If you have entered a both a Name  and IP Address field manually, and both values resolve to a valid physical or virtual machine, then the value specified in the IP Address field will take precedence.

3.Specify the machine credentials in the Connect As section as follows:

a)In the User Name field enter the down-level logon name of the windows administrator to access the machine. For example, enter 'mydomain\administrator'.

b)In the Password field, enter the password required for authentication.

NOTE: The credentials will be saved to the Windows Vault on the Controller machine. The credentials will be updated if the specifications are edited. For more information, please see Editing an Agent or Workstation. The  credentials will be deleted when the machine is removed from Distributed Database. For more information, please see Removing an Agent or Workstation.

4.Click the [Browse] button by the Location field and choose a security certificate (PFX file) to deploy to the machine.

5.Enter the password for the security certificate in the Password field.

6.Click [Connect].  

This action adds the agent or workstation to the Distributed Database and copies the Metalogix Content Matrix installer files, Application Mapping files, and the licensing file to the specified machine.  The Metalogix Content Matrix Console is silently installed and configured on the selected machine.  (For Self-Service Migration the simplified SharePoint Edition of the Console is installed on the workstation.  For Distributed Migration, all editions are installed on the agent.)

The new agent or workstation appears in the list in the Manage Agents or Manage Workstations dialog. The Status value is 'Configuring'.

Viewing Agent or Workstation Details

To view agent or workstation details:

1.From the Manage Agents or Manage Workstations dialog, select an agent or workstation in the list.

2.Click View Agent or View Workstation.

The table below describes the information in the Agent Details or Workstation Details dialog.

Field

Description

Agent Name

Workstation Name

Name of the physical or virtual machine that is set up as an agent or workstation.

IP Address

The Internet Protocol identifier of the machine.

OS Version

The version of the operating system used by the machine.

CM Version

The version of the Metalogix Content Matrix Console installed on the machine.

Connected As

Down-level logon name used to access the machine. For example, mydomain\administrator.

Agent Output

Workstation Output

List of log messages from the agent or workstation prefixed with a time stamp. The most recent message appears at the top of the list.

Changing Agent or Workstation Account Credentials

You can change the account credentials of an Agent via the Edit Agent or Edit Workstation dialog.

To edit an Agent or Workstation:

1.From the Manage Agents or Manage Workstations dialog, select the agent or workstation whose credentials you want to change.

2.Click Edit Agent or Edit Workstation.

Note that the Name and IP Address fields are read-only and disabled. The [Browse] button is also disabled.

3.If necessary, change the User Name and/or Password.

4.Click [Connect] to update the credentials.
