This manual leads you through the installation of Archive Manager for Exchange optional features (Component for reading permissions and OWA support) on MS Exchange Server 2010.
With our OWA 2010 support, archived e-mails can be easily accessed without any reconfiguration via Outlook Web Access (OWA).
To synchronize Exchange permissions with Archive Manager, Exchange Server Tools has to be installed on the Exchange server with Mailbox Role.
In case of MS Exchange Server 2010, those features are installed with a special 64bit Extensions Setup.exe. This special setup is downloaded together with the Archive Manager setup. Please note that the optional features are to be installed only after the Archive Manager server was installed. The 64bit Extensions Setup.exe is dedicated to run only on MS Exchange Server 2010 running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (64bit).
NOTE: In case of MS Exchange Server 2013, 2016 and 2019 see the OWA Installation Guide..
In case of upgrades, it is necessary to go through all dialogs of the OWA Installer which pops up after you run the setup. Only then the update is completed.
With this extension installed, administrator will be able to synchronize Active Directory permissions with Archive Manager. Exchange Server Tools installation is part of the Archive Manager installation process.
·Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 / 2012 (R2)
·.NET Framework 3.5 SP1
·MS Exchange 2010 (Mailbox role)
NOTE: To synchronize permissions, this extension has to be installed at least on one Exchange 2010 (Mailbox role). However, if several Exchange servers are available, we recommend it to be installed on multiple Exchange 2010 (Mailbox role) servers. In this way the synchronization is possible even if one of the servers is not available.
This extension is installed automatically when OWA 2010 support is installed (see the next section). However, it is possible to install only this component without installing OWA 2010 support. To do so, run the Disc \ Metalogix \ Archive Manager Installation Package \ 64bit Extension \ 64bit Extensions Setup.exe setup as described in the next section and uncheck the OWA 2010 support option.
In this section we will describe how to configure and use the Archive Manager OWA 2010 extension. This feature is necessary only if you plan to access and retrieve archived emails over the web. Without this extension, the users will not be able to access the full content of the archived messages in OWA. The OWA 2010 extension should be installed on all Exchange 2010 Servers with the CAS role (Client Access Server role). Please note that this OWA 2010 extension can be installed only on Exchange Server 2010.
NOTE: When OWA support is installed, the Exchange Server Tools extension is installed automatically, i.e. Active Directory permissions synchronization is enabled.
Archive Manager super-user must be granted impersonation permissions in Exchange Server just in case that you plan to access archived emails via OWA.
Use the PowerShell to grand the super-user Impersonation permissions over all Exchange 2010 Servers in your environment:
1.Run the Exchange Management Shell from Start / Programs / Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 / Exchange Management Shell.
2.To grant the super-user Impersonation permissions, run the following command:
New-ManagementRoleAssignment -Name "Impersonation-Archive Manager for Exchange" -Role "ApplicationImpersonation" -User "srv_exchange"
