Toad Data Point 6.0 - Installation Guide

Create Intelligence Central Group

When you publish an object to Intelligence Central, you can choose to share the object with one or more users (or groups of users). The Publishing dialog presents a list of Intelligence Central users and groups from which you can select. The groups listed can be Active Directory and Intelligence Central groups.

The Publishing dialog also allows you to create a new Intelligence Central group from the current users. This is useful if you repeatedly share objects with a select set of users who do not already form a separate, distinct group. You can include user accounts from both Active Directory and Intelligence Central in one group.

You can also create a new Intelligence Central group from the Alter Visibility (Sharing) dialog or the Users tab in the Object Explorer.

Note: This feature is available in the Toad Data Point Professional edition only and requires access to a Toad Intelligence Central server.

To create an Intelligence Central Group

  1. Use one of the following methods to create a new Intelligence Central group:
    • In the Publishing to Intelligence Central dialog, click the link beside Sharing. In the Sharing settings page, click Create Intelligence Central Group.
    • In the Object Explorer, select an object and click . In the Alter Visibility dialog, click Create Intelligence Central Group.
    • In the Object Explorer, select the Users tab and click . (To display the Groups toolbar, select a group.)
  2. In the Create Intelligence Central Group dialog, enter a name for the new group.

Notes: A group name can contain only the following characters: alpha and numeric characters, space ( ), underscore (_), hyphen (-), and period (.). Group names are not case sensitive.

  3. To populate the group, use the arrows to add selected users to the list in the right pane. To filter the list of Intelligence Central users from which to select, enter a name or partial text string in the Members field.

Use the icons to identify the origin of each user account listed.

  4. If the individual you want to add is not listed, you can add users from Active Directory by clicking Add Active Directory Users. See Add Active Directory User or Group to learn how to add users to Intelligence Central from Active Directory.
  5. After adding users to the group, click OK to create the group.
  6. The group name is added to the list of users in the Sharing settings page (or Alter Visibility dialog). Any Active Directory groups/members included in the new group are also added to the list. You can now select the new group and share the object you are currently publishing (or modifying).
  7. To share other objects with the new group, open the Alter Visibility dialog for the selected object. See Specify Sharing and Manage Privileges for Objects for more information.
  8. To modify the group after it is created, select the Users tab in the Object Explorer. See Manage Intelligence Central Users and Groups for more information.

Tip: You can manage groups and view group information, such as a list of members or objects shared with the group, from the Users tab in the Object Explorer.
