When trying to connect via SSH in Spotlight on Unix, get the following error message:
Datasource error in connection xxxxx: Failed to connect to server.
ErrorCode: 3500
Reason : SSH connection error (error code is -1)
Firewall blocking SSH port.
WORKAROUND 1
Open up the SSH port (default 22) on the firewall.
WORKAROUND 2
If the firewall is not the problem then check the suggestions above:
For connection using SSH, the sshd daemon must be installed and running and configured to receive remote connections.
Also make sure that the commands to observe system activity (for example, netstat, vmstat, iostat, sar) are accessible to SSH sessions for Spotlight to observe Unix activity. Ensure these commands are located in the search path for SSH sessions. If not, Spotlight will display an error.
You may also need to alter the PasswordAuthentication configuration item in the sshd_config file. Set the value of PasswordAuthentication to yes. Once you have modified the sshd_config file you must restart the sshd process to apply the new setting.
