Spotlight on SQL Server uses WMI to capture information from the Operating System and SQL Server via the WmiPrvSE.exe Windows process.
Microsoft has stated that the wmiprvse.exe process may leak memory when a WMI notification query is used heavily on a Windows Server 2008. There is a hot fix from Microsoft to address this issue.
Also, This document explains how to view the memory limit (quotas) set for the wmi-provider-service.
See the highlighted “WmiPrvSE.exe” snapshot from Spotlight. I would like to talk with Quest support before we deploy the hot fix.
