Service not running alarm can be utilized:
1. Go to the alarms setting and modify the Service not running alarm for certain Windows
2. Uncheck the option Disable this alarm
3. Set the Default Severity to normal
4. Click on the Add button and select the SQL Server service
5. Set the severity of the service to High/Medium/Low
6. Click OK to save the changes.
Be aware that SQL server service down is only one of serious issues informing that SQL Server does not work, the preferred way would be to use the SQL Server Connection Failure alarm and un-check the option "requires acknowledgement" and use the alarm action like this:
For all alarms
where the alarm is Monitored Server - SQL Server Connection Failure
and the alarm has existed for more than 5 minutes
send email to (recipient)
Which would avoid sending the temporary connection failure notification and you would also not miss all kinds of serious issues that SQL server does not work.
