A monitored server that is running on a VMWare is showing as 'Not Virtualized' in Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise 7.0.1.
On the main Home page under SQL Processes, the Virtualization Overhead states “Not Virtualized.”
Resolution 1:
For Spotlight to monitor a VMware server, the username specified must have at least a read-only role for the ESX server
or VirtualCenter server that the user wants to connect to.
It is possible to monitor Virtualization Overhead for virtual machines hosted on
the ESX Server 4.0 or VirtualCenter 2.5, but it is not possible to monitor it on
VMWare Workstations.
The user should specify name of VirtualCenter server (where virtual machine is
physically hosted) in the address field of VMWare-connection.
Then, the user needs to select OS-connection and link it to the VMWare-connection
specifying host and virtual machine name.
Resolution 2:
Please, make sure the host name for the VMware server is specified correctly
in the address field of VMWare-connection.
Resolution 3:
Also, ping the virtual hostname from the Diagnostic Server-machine to ensure there is a connection
and no firewall blocking it.
The user can also try to specify IP-address rather than host name for the VMware server in the address field of VMWare-connection for testing purposes.
