FAQ on Spotlight Express Tokens
1. What do I do with the tokens?
Answer: Once a token is generated from www.questspotlightexpress.com, you are asked for it during the install of the Spotlight Web Publisher. Then every user that wants info from the Diagnostic Server must use the same token as the one that resides on the Spotlight Web Publisher. In other words, the token you entered permanently into the Spotlight Web Publisher during install must match with what the end user entered into his iPad Spotlight Express application.
2. From my account on www.questspotlightexpress.com, can I generate more than one token?
Answer: From the same www.questspotlightexpress.com account, you can only have one token.
3. How do the token associate with our Diagnostic Server User Group?
Answer: The token does NOT associate with the Diagnostic Group. It associated to the Spotlight Web Publisher that you installed on your Diagnostic Server. So any user that needs to connect to your Diagnostic Server from their iPad must match the token on the Spotlight Web Publisher.
4. How do I know my token only reads my company's SQL Server status data, not other company's?
Answer: The token generated is unique to your account and putting it into your install of the Spotlight Web Publisher ensures that the specific token is permanently associated with your Spotlight Web Publisher.
5. When I setup Spotlight Web Publisher on my Diagnostic Server, can it take only one token or it can take multiple tokens per one DS?
Answer:
On the Diagnostic Server/Spotlight Web Publisher end, it can only take one token at time. On the iPad end, you can enter multiple tokens. So you can monitor multiple servers.
6. Is it possible to change the permanent token after Spotlight Web Publisher installation? If so, how to do that?
Answer: On the Diagnostic Server/Spotlight Web Publisher end, you can change the token. Once you install the Spotlight Web Publisher, you can go to Start | Programs | Quest Software | Spotlight Web Publisher | Spotlight Web Publisher Status and Configuration. There is a "Configure User Token" option there. Click on it and enter another token. If you do that, all the iPads will no longer be able monitor the server as their token now do not match the one on the server. So you'll have to send out the new token.
7. Will the old token become invalid?
Answer: No the old token can still be reused.
8. What happens when a DBA quits? Can he still get monitoring info?
Answer: Yes he can as long as the token on his iPad matches the token on the Web Publisher. The tokens have no correlation at all with the Windows User. Spotlight Express will not know if a Windows User is terminated. What you'll need to do to kept the DBA who quits from getting monitoring info is to go to Spotlight Express app on his/her iPad/iPhone, access the options, and remove the token from the iPad/iPhone.
