Spotlight on Oracle 4.0 hangs for a long time and fails to connect when:
- Using a permanent key that has a Server limit in it, AND
- The computer does not have the directory "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Quest Software\Spotlight" or the user does not have write access to the directory. The lack of the All Users directory can occur when the application is installed on a drive other than C:, or when the directory is named in a non-English language. For example.
All Users\Programdata
All Users.WINNT
D drive
\All Users\Datos de programa\
German
1. The directory path "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Quest Software\Spotlight" is incorrectly hard-coded.
2. The tracking file for server connections fails to get created.
WORKAROUND 1:
Manually create the writable directory "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Quest Software\Spotlight ". This workaround has not been tested, but logic says it should fix the problem.
WORKAROUND 2:
Manually install the attached patched binary. This is a temporary solution until the issue is resolved in a GA release.
STATUS:
Waiting for fix in a future release of Spotlight on Oracle.
