Description
When launching sp_ctrl after changing the SSL password or changing the mode of SSL security, the following error messages are observed:

Cause
Most likely cause is, SharePlex was not shutdown prior to running “sp_security –setup” -
Resolution
One of the requirements when running “sp_security –setup” for the purpose of either changing password or changing the mode from SSL to non-SSL or vice versa is, SharePlex needs to be shutdown first. If it is not done, it results in the failure to launch sp_ctrl even though the SharePlex processes exist. To fix the problem, carry out the following:
Kill the SharePlex process(es) associated with this instance of SharePlex
Re-run “sp_security –setup”
Restart SharePlex

Additional Information
This is a bug in SharePlex 9.1.3.38. The problem occurs when the environment variable SP_SYS_HOST_NAME is set. This causes cop to bind to a specific IP. The sp_security utility checks for cop by trying to connect to localhost. This fails and so sp_security thinks cop is down. Without the existence of SP_SYS_HOST_NAME, it works as expected. The running of “sp_security –setup” displays this requirement of shutting down SharePlex first as the following shows: sp_security --setup Security Setup Wizard --------------------- This wizard will walk you through setting up the SharePlex network security.
