What’s the difference between the agentless restore method and the agent based restore method in Recovery Manager?
Recovery Manager provides two different methods of restoring objects online. A check box in the Online Restore Wizard allows you to specify which method to use. The agentless method uses Microsoft Tombstone Reanimation interface, first made available in Windows Server 2003, to undelete the object and then re-applies all attributes that are not stored in the object's tombstone from the backup using LDAP calls. This method requires that the target domain controller be running Windows Server 2003. Since the Tombstone Reanimation interface was not available in Windows 2000 Server, the agent-based method provided online restore capabilities by placing the object's tombstone and attributes from backup into the Active Directory database.
