Can Recovery Manager perform an offline restore of the Active Directory Database from one Domain Controller to another? -
Resolution
Recovery Manager for AD cannot be used to do an offline (directory services restore mode) restore to a different server because there is computer (hardware) specific information in the restore files and the computer may crash (blue screen) on boot up.
A backup created for a given Domain Controller cannot be used to restore the Active Directory database to other Domain Controllers that currently exist in the Forest; however, a new Domain Controller can be brought online using the data from the extracted backup in the Install from Media option in dcpromo (https://support.quest.com/kb/4305023).
