File level restore of agentless (ESXi) protected dynamic spanned volumes fails - "unrecognized file system" (4039040)

• Server protected via agent-less protection through vcenter(ESXi).
• Server contains at least one Windows dynamic volume consisting of multiple spanned disks.
• Attempts to access contents of mounted recovery points via Windows Explorer results in error message similar to: "The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted."

Dynamic volume support for file level restores is limited to simple-dynamic volumes for agentless protected servers (via vcenter/esxi).

Please refer to user guide for your version of Rapid Recovery.

You can still use recovery points for this server in volume level, virtual exports, and bare metal recovery scenarios. If you proceed with the below steps, you may want to keep these recovery points.

To be able to use file-level restores in the future, under the conditions stated above, you have two options:

• Remove server from agent-less protection, and install agent on server, then protect as new. Note that you can keep previously backed up recovery points for virtual exports, and bare metal recovery style restores.

or

• Convert the dynamic volumes to basic volumes via diskmgmt.msc - NOTE: You would loose data in those volumes in the process, so you may want to temporarily move it to intermediate storage to be copied back once volume has been converted to basic.
