Various files selected for a backup in a vmware plugin (all versions) fail to be backed up though the backup itself completes with warnings:
Warning 2012/01/30 18:03:36 58 Data Plugin ILS427 Failed to get status of file
Failed to get status of file 'E:\Shared\Div\EFM\Estates\B - Projects\Project Files\Live Projects\Babbage Opn Access Refurbishment\Correspondence\Meetings\Stage 1_Cap Exec Feasibility - Design confirmation and budget preparation Babbage 203_207-209_ 03-01-12.doc', The system cannot find the path specified. (3)
This is due to the restriction for the complete file-level path generated which is added to and placed in the vmware plugin working directory not to exceed 260
characters. This is explained as follows:
For file-level backups of a VM, we create a folder with the same name as the VM in the working directory , and
then a sub-folder named "letters", and this is where the VM guest files get mounted. So, for a guest file with path as:
E:\Shared\Div\EFM\Estates\B - Projects\Project Files\Live Projects\Babbage Opn Access Refurbishment\Correspondence\Meetings\Stage 1_Cap Exec Feasibility - Design confirmation and budget preparation Babbage 203_207-209_ 03-01-12.doc
and the working dir set to "F:\vcbmounts" (as is on the customer setup) and for a VM named "FILESPACE3" (as seen in the log excerpt provided), we actually end up using a path like the following:
F:\vcbmounts\FILESPACE3\letters\E\Shared\Div\EFM\Estates\B - Projects\Project Files\Live Projects\Babbage Opn Access Refurbishment\Correspondence\Meetings\Stage 1_Cap Exec Feasibility - Design confirmation and budget preparation Babbage 203_207-209_ 03-01-12.doc
Here, we find that we have ended up crossing the MAX_PATH limit.
This issue is resolved as of Netvault 8.6.2 currently on limited release.
