This resolution is based upon the Quest Catalog Service being the culprit for the metadata.exe process staying active in taskmgr.exe on the vRanger Server.
If you don't use the functionality of the Cataloging Service you can either:
1) Go into Service and disable the Quest Catalog Service on the local vRanger server in order to prevent it from starting.
- or -
2) Go into Add/Remove Programs and remove the Catalog Manager from the machine.
If you do use the Quest Cataloging Service and want to continue to do so:
1) Go into Add/Remove Programs on the vRanger server and remove the Catalog Manager from the local machine.
2) Validate under the Services on the vRanger Server that you no longer have a Quest Catalog Service listed. (if you do you will need to go into the Windows Registry and remove the references to Quest Catalog from the server).
3) Reboot
4) Rerun the vRangerPro.exe setup that was used to install Ranger and choose the option for Catalog Manager from the list of options to install and rerun the installation (since you already have Ranger installed this will only validate your existing installation and simply add the Catalog Manager feature.
