The MySQL Agent uses a MySQL user to send read queries to the MySQL server and retrieve metric information. The agent creates a JDBC connection to the database server with connection parameters provided in the Agent Properties. The agent can be run either locally or remotely as long as the user can create a connection to the MySQL server and is permitted to connect from the FglAM host.
Administrative Functions
If Administration is enabled in the agent properties and the Foglight user has the MySQL Administrator role, the user will have access to the MySQL Administration Panel dashboard. Operations performed there will employ the database Admin user provided in the Agent Properties and be logged to the agent log. The agent can use the same user for both monitoring and administration if that is preferable and the user has the necessary privileges.
MySQL Replication Slave Monitoring
The agent includes an optional feature to monitor only the Replication Slave status of another MySQL server when “Monitor Replication Slave?” is set to true in the Agent Properties. The same architectural considerations apply to this process as to normal monitoring with the caveat that different privileges for the MySQL user are required, namely REPLICATION CLIENT and SELECT on the connecting database.
