What is the Target Address and what does it do?
The Target Address is an attribute in Active Directory which would only be populated when the user wants to forward the emails to another email address.
When talking about matching functionality and pre-populated targetAddress value for those objects into which QCS (Quest Collaboration Services) will match published (source) objects.
In that case, by default, when QCS performs matching, targetAddress attribute of matching target will be overwritten with redirection
address to the published (source) object, according to the Namespaces settings (same address as if QCS would create new stub object, no differences).
However, when setting up automated matching rule, there's a possibility to specify "attribute sync" rules on per-attribute level for each
matching rule. Default for targetAddress is REPLACE, but LEAVE can be chosen. In the latter case, the value of targetAddress attribute will be left intact when the matching is performed.
· If the published object’s targetAddress attribute is populated, then it will be used. This logical step can be omitted / skipped with the Registry on the QCS machine, creating a DWORD called "DontCopyTargetAddress" Value of 1, in HKLM\Software\wow6432node\Aelita\AelitaCollaborationServices
· If the targetAddress attribute is not available, then the primary SMTP address is used as long as it’s present anywhere on the Namespaces regardless of the order.
· If redirection address is not yet identified by this point, then it will be set to the secondary proxy address matching to the topmost address on the Namespaces page of the publisher’s side. The namespaces listed there are in priority order.
· If none of the secondary proxy addresses were encountered in the specified Namespace list, no stub object will be created.
